Prof Tinyiko Maluleke is a leading and internationally-recognized researcher in his field, specialising in religion and politics as well as black and African theologies. Effective from January 2018, the South African National Research Foundation has awarded him a B1 rating as a researcher – that is, an internationally acclaimed researcher in his field.. Prof Maluleke is an elected member of the Academy of Science for South Africa.
In February 2022, Prof Maluleke assumed his position as Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Tshwane University of Technology.
As part of his service to the broader society, Prof Maluleke is a member of the boards of the National Research Foundation as well as the MTN-SA Foundation. For the years 2016 and 2017, he served as a judge in the non-fiction segment, called the Alan Paton Award, of South Africa’s premier annual literary prize, the Sunday Times National Prize for Literature. He has also served as judge in the MTN National Annual Radio Awards in the years 2013 and 2014. Prof Maluleke is a regular contributor of opinion pieces on various social and political issues in the mainstream media.
